Doomsday No More – Book Your Apocalyptic Vacation Today!

February 1, 2012

We are one month into the 2012 New Year; meaning we are one month closer to the end of the world as predicted by the Maya. For Mexican tourism this doomsday, December 21, 2012 according to the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, is turning out to be a huge draw rather than a deterrent for visitors. Southeastern Mexico – including the areas of Veracruz, Tlaxcala, Puebla, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo – is embracing the apocalypse and putting on a year-long celebration.

These celebrations are estimated to bring in 52 million visitors to the Maya heartland doubling the usual 22 million visitors the region annually sees. Instead of superstition, locals and Mayas are looking to this date as a time of renewal and revival. People are coming together to participate in time capsule ceremonies, traditional Maya incenses burning rituals and overall excitement surrounds Southeastern Mexico and Maya history.

As a result, leading up to December 21, 2012 the tourist industry is seeing a sharp increase in bookings. What does this mean for travelers? Its means that you are not alone if you want to get a glimpse of Maya history and the possible hysteria that surrounds the apocalyptic day of December 21, 2012. One travel company, Maya Sites Travel Services, is naming its travel packages “Beginning the New Calendar Era under the Yucatan Stars” to bring in business for the event of the year if not millenniums for Mexico. And it’s working. They are seeing more and more people book leading up to the December 21st date, even weeks and months out.

So before you think that the world is coming to an end on December 21, 2012 join the millions who are looking to this date as a time of new beginnings and as a celebration of a civilization’s history that is so deeply embedded in Mesoamerican culture. Book your apocalyptic vacation today!
