Thought readers may want an update...so much has changed at Newpark since my last post. To begin, Newpark continues to be the "entertainment destination" of Park City.

In December, Jupiter Bowl opened its doors offering locals and vacationers nightlife options not found anywhere else. "This is not your father's bowling alley," says Jupiter Bowl partner Michael Malone. It's a phrase that has been used frequently by the team working to pull Summit County's first bowling center in years together. It's not your father's alley because it isn't an alley at all, says marketing director Susan Spivey. It's an
entertainment center with bowling as the main attraction, she said. Enjoy a fantastic meal at the Lift Grill and Lounge, a martini at the Black Diamond Bar, billiards, arcade, a Wii zone and so much more. Spivey said the layout has become popular with parents who can sip hard liquor in the Black Diamond while watching their kids at the arcade and pass quarters to them over the railing. Bowlers can have cocktails served to
them lane-side. A special party room has four lanes for exclusive events and other parts of Jupiter Bowl can be separated with a curtain for reserved events. Whether you are a family looking for fun, corporate party or just looking for some thing entirely different, Jupiter Bowl is definitely the most lively hot spot in Park City.

Also, Newpark just added two more dining options – Kneader’s Bakery and Café and Good Thymes Bistro.

Kneader’s equals fresh. Everything - the soup, pastries, breads and even the sandwich meat - is made daily. The turkey is slow roasted for about nine hours every night and pulled each morning. The bakery makes 11 different artisan breads, none of which contain preservatives. But "made daily" has come to mean several things in the industry. At Kneaders, it means from scratch. Every morning over 40 pastries are made from scratch and donated to local churches at the end of the night. "The pastry counter really defines us," said Andrew Smith, managing partner. And it changes constantly, too. The list of offerings has over 70 items, but many are seasonal. This month you can buy peppermint cake and frosted sugar cookies. Next month they may be phased out and replaced by new items. Another thing that makes the brand unique is that it's a real café. A lot of bakeries also sell soups and sandwiches; Kneaders is a restaurant with a large selection of pies and breads you can take home. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. In fact, Smith said, locals seem to be most excited about breakfast. The Lavazza brand stocks a full coffee bar, all-you-can-eat pancakes and French toast are sold for just over $5, several types of croissant sandwiches are offered along with fruit cups and all the standard morning pastries.

Ilese Jaffa, owner of the Good Thymes Bistro and mastermind behind the menu and interior decor, recently chose to relocate her thriving restaurant from other area in Park City to Newpark. After building a tremendous following over the past three years offering a menu that fits everybody's needs and watching Newpark continue to be Park City’s hot spot, the relocation to Newpark was an obvious choice. After being in the food service business for 19 years, she said it was time for a more simple attack on the taste buds of Park City. With a menu that includes macaroni and cheese, meatloaf, and chicken pot-pie, simplicity is the genius behind it all. Add to that a price range that includes only a couple items above $16, and Jaffa believes she has a recipe for success."We grew in popularity a lot faster than we expected," she said. "It's because of our quality and price. We have affordable food in Park City with high quality. We've taken the basics and put a twist to it. It's a little more upscale than what you'd make at home, but we're still affordable. Park City has a lot of what I call foo-foo restaurants," she said. "Now locals and vacationers have a place to go where they'll recognize the items on the menu. We're very children- and family-friendly." It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Newpark continue to be recognized as “green” becoming Utah's first and only LEED-ND certified green land development. LEED-ND (Leadership in Environmental & Energy Design - Neighborhood Development) is a land development rating system developed by a joint venture of the world's leading organizations for environmental improvement: US Green Building Council, Natural Resources Defense Council and Congress for New Urbanism. Thousands of the world's most respected government, private sector, and environmental entities are member organizations of these groups including the EPA, Sierra Club, Harvard University, Boston City, etc. LEED and LEED-ND certifications are objective, universally respected, third party ratings. LEED-ND may be the most difficult LEED designation to achieve. As of September 25.2009, there were 3,316 LEED certified buildings, but only 39 LEED-ND certified land developments worldwide, only 23 of which have exceeded Newpark's LEED Silver certification.

With all the dining, shopping and nightlife choices – and incredible hotel and lodging prices – it is obvious that Newpark continues to be a top choice for travelers visiting Park City. Even if you stay closer to Main, it is inevitable that you will come to Newpark and Kimball Junction for most everything thing else you do or need.

With all the amazing deals right now, it's hard to justify staying all the way out at newpark. Probably worth making some calls around Park City to see how much more it would be to stay in town. My guess is probably not much more.

As the general manager of Newpark Resort & Hotel I couldn't agree more :-) - however as a 4-year resident of Park City, I can whole-hearted say that the Newpark Town Center and Redstone are wonderful locations! I actually purchased my home within walking distance so that my family and I can make the most of the year-round activites, shopping, dinning and etertainment options that both properties provide - which also makes Newpark the most ideal vacation destination for nearly any traveler. Welcome and Enjoy!
